FAQs

Updated: Feb 8, 2021

Some questions everyone asks! So we have compiled a list of the frequently asked questions. Don't worry, if you can't find the answer you are looking for here we are always happy to help, just send us an email.

1) Am I able to see Mum and Dad?

Pixie-Fortune uses a stud that we do not own so we cannot do on request viewings. There will be a special day allocated to "meet the parents", we also have videos on the website, regular live streams on our Facebook page and lots of pictures. Mum will be available at our meets but our regular live streams will show how mum interacts with the puppies.

Our mums have great temperaments and are active, caring, loving mothers who are gentle with their babies.

2) Am I able to see and handle the full litter?

No, while the full litter are available for viewing online or virtually they will not always all be available for handling on meet and greet days. This is for a variety of reasons including some puppies being pre-selected for special training/ownership as future companion or assistance dogs, training status. All puppies will have temperament and culture testing.

3) Can I view the puppies in your home?

Again this is a yes and no answer, our home is not open for viewing or meet and greets. We don't do home visits, there are so many risks and the health, safety & well-being of my dogs, and my family, come first. We have lots of online and virtual options to view the puppies, their mother, their interactions, how and where they are raised. There are also meet and greets set up to select and interact with your puppy in a safe environment.

4) How do I see the puppies before the meet and greets?

We have soo many options available. There are live streams, video feeds, video, text and photo updates, vet notes, behavioral tests and I highly encourage facetime/video calls at any time. There is also an Alfred Camera set up so owners can log on via their phones and take a peek at the puppies anytime day or night. We welcome messages or calls as we understand the need to "scope" us out as breeders.

5) Why do your pups go to homes at a later age than other breeders?

While we do allow some pups to go home at 8-10 weeks to pet only homes. We highly recommend having the puppies stay and go through our "Fortune School". We know its hard having to wait for your little angel but by letting them stay those few weeks longer we focus on socialisation, basic obedience, toilet training and crate training. This extended period gives us more time to assess and accurately judge the puppies developing temperament providing us the ability to better match with the potential owner. For Companion and Assistance dog potentials this is not optional and they will stay the full 14 weeks.

6) What vaccinations and treatments has the puppy had?

The vaccination schedule is determined by the vet with puppies needing 3 vaccinations, one at 6 weeks, one at 10 weeks and one at 15 weeks. This means we have done two for you and your vet will do your third, then one week later your pup can hit the park, literally!

Pups will also be wormed by us every 2-3 weeks from birth till 12 weeks of age we then recommend worming monthly with NexGard Spectra (2-3.5kg). Did you know most puppies are born with worms! so it is essential that they are wormed regularly when young.

7) I changed my mind & don't want a puppy can I get my deposit back?

No, All deposits are Non-Refundable, apart from exceptional circumstances which you will need to provide supporting documentation for. Deposits are Non-refunable because you are not paying for us to hold an unchanging item, this is a puppy. We have to raise, train and socialise these babies and you need to be sure that getting a puppy is right for you Before you pay a deposit. If for some reason your circumstances change, regardless if it is before or after you bring puppy home, it is easy to contact us and we can work something out.

8) Will my puppy be registered?

Yes your puppy will have a limited registration with DogsQueensland (Which falls under the Australian National Kennel Council). Limited Registration is the normal registration for purebred/pedigree dogs. Only Show/competing and Breeding dogs have Mains Registration. Sometimes certificates are not available when puppies are ready to go home and will have to be posted out when we receive them.

9a) Do you guys do Therapy or Service dogs?

Did you say Service dog or Emotional Service animal, maybe Therapy dog? In Australia a dog trained to assist a person, or mitigate their disability is called an Assistance dog. Service dogs are mainly found with the military or police. Australia does not recognise Emotional Assistance dogs but if your dog is trained and tasks appropriately it could be a Psychiatric Assistance Dog. Some people get confused and ask for a Therapy dog when they are thinking of a Psychiatric Assistance Dog. A Therapy dog is a dog trained to provide comfort to OTHER people, for example dogs that go to hospitals or nursing homes to bring love and joy to patients.

9b) Can I get an Assistance Dog from you?

The answer here is Yes and No. We strive to have our dogs at trainee level but at 12-16weeks old these dogs cannot be assistance dog, they are far too young. With our head-start, continued training and tests you will be able to have a great partner. It is not until 6 months of age that you will be able to reliably call you little mate an assistance dog. Until then we will continue to provide training tips, support and guidance to keep you on the best path. We understand that some people may be uncomfortable with the term assistance dog so we also use the term Companion Dog to make you or family members more comfortable.

10) Can I bring my puppy to you for training?

Yes, We do special training and if you both pass our pre-approval test then we can enrol you as a team into our Fortune school to try and give you the best start we can. This includes the support and guidance through the Assistance dog process.

11) What type of facilities do you have ?

*based off the property we are looking at not all items listed are certain*

Pool for swimming lessons, Treadmill for running exercises, Lure machine for fun and running exercises, miniature agility course, grooming room, Sensory garden for learning to walk on different ground types and a few different outside noises, smells and sounds.
